Strengthen Your Faith (I)
Memory verse“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
A critical instrument of operation of the Christian life is faith. The Bible says that it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). That also means it is impossible to successfully walk with God without faith. It is therefore very important to keep your faith alive, healthy, strong and effective.
To this end, the Christian must watch out for those things that can weaken faith and make it ineffective. The most critical thing to guard against is lack of or inadequate engagement with God’s word. A defective interaction with the scripture will weaken faith because faith comes by hearing the word of God. The measure of your interactions with the scripture determines both the level of your faith and the measure of its effectiveness.
Secondly, a defective interaction with the scripture will limit your knowledge of God’s past dealings with His people. That ignorance about the past acts of God will rob you of critical information designed to boost faith. David discovered this truth, that when we are not mindful of the years of God’s mighty hand as recorded in the scripture, it will weaken faith and limit our expectations of and access to the supernatural (Psalms 77:10-12).
Beloved, it is important that you constantly strengthen your faith. A sure pathway is to let the word of God dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). If you are filled with God’s word and you have a consistently robust interaction with it, it will strengthen your faith. But if your interaction with the scripture is poor, your faith will be weak. May love for the word of God continually grow in our hearts.
