Strengthen Your Faith (IV)
Memory verse“Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident” (Psalms 27:3).
Fear is a natural human emotion. To strengthen your faith, you must consciously choose to anchor your confidence in God’s presence and power to save, even in the midst of fear. That was what the Psalmist did in today’s text.
For example, those who live in fear of death must consciously choose to live by faith rather than die in fear. There must be a deliberate decision to stand up against fear and reject the torment it brings (1 John 4:18). To embrace faith is to embrace life because faith itself is life. Hence, the Bible says the just shall live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).
But you need a solid foundation to generate such a strong faith that will trump and trash fear. For the Psalmist, he made the Lord his light and He became his salvation (Psalms 27:1). That means, he made the Lord his compass and only saw things through His light. As it is written, “in thy light shall we see light” (Psalms 36:9). Faith is strengthened when we choose to always see things through the prism of God’s words which is light (Psalms 119:105).
Finally, the Psalmist made the Lord his strength or stronghold (Psalms 27:2). That means, he trusted the Lord totally for his protection and defence. Many times, David referred to the Lord as his rock, fortress, high tower, shield and buckler. Ultimately, such a mindset that focuses on the Lord as one’s impenetrable fortress will produce an impregnable faith.
Fear is an enemy that weakens faith. Receive grace to confront your fears and consciously choose faith, in Jesus name.
