Strengthen Your Faith (II)

Oluwamuyiwa Okuseinde

Memory verse

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20).

Strong faith does not just evolve automatically. Faith must be built and strengthened to become strong. Robust engagement with God’s word has been identified as a fundamental building block of faith. The Bible also prescribes prayer as another major builder of faith.

Prayer brings boldness which is a necessary food for faith. You cannot exercise faith while entertaining fear and cowardice. The Bible says that after being threatened and terrified by the Jewish elders, the apostles returned to their company and prayed. When they had prayed, fear was shaken off, and they began to preach the gospel with boldness (Acts 4:31).

Today’s scripture says further that praying, especially in the Holy Ghost builds faith. Praying in the Holy Ghost means praying in other tongues, that is, praying with the special spiritual language the believer received at the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said those who believe on Him shall speak with new tongues (Mark 16:17). The early Church saw the fulfilment of that promise throughout the apostolic age. Today, believers all over the world continue to pray in the Holy Ghost.

Praying in the Holy Ghost also means praying by the leading of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit teaches what we are to pray for, and how (Romans 8:26). Praying aright and accurately can only be done through the help and influence of the Holy Ghost. When prayer is made through the Spirit, it produces results which will boost faith.

Ultimately, it will be correct to say that a weak prayer life will produce weak faith. As we give ourselves to prayer, may our faith become stronger and stronger in Jesus name.
