Strengthen Your Faith (VI)

Oluwamuyiwa Okuseinde

Memory verse

“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20).

Abraham is reputed in the scripture as the father of faith (Romans 4:11-12). Today’s Bible verse also testifies to Abraham’s strong faith. Abraham’s strategy to strengthen his faith is a fitting conclusion to our conversation on the subject.

The Bible says Abraham “staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God”. Obviously, Abraham’s secret to attaining strong faith was maintaining a practice of giving glory to God always. To give glory to God is to give Him thanks and praise. It is to extol and worship Him for who He is, what He has done, and what He will yet do.

Giving glory to God through praise and thanksgiving is an expression of confidence in His character and ability. To give thanks, even before receiving answers to prayers is to acknowledge God’s integrity, that He will perform what He promised. Thanksgiving also helps redirect attention from the magnitude of a problem to the greatness of God, thereby strengthening our faith. Abraham did not allow his circumstances to determine his attitude towards God. Rather, his confidence in God shaped his response to his problem.

Finally, you can make your faith strong and victorious by the word of your testimony (Revelation 12:11). David’s testimony of deliverance from the lion and the bear served to encourage him and boost his confidence in the Lord, that He would deliver him from Goliath also (1 Samuel 17:34–37). Constant acknowledgement of the good things God has done will embolden your faith and make it effectual (Philemon 1:6). May praise and thanksgiving to God never cease from our lips.
