Strengthen Your Faith (III)
Memory verse“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17).
Paul, writing to the Christians in Rome, acknowledged their faith which was spoken of throughout the whole world. Then, he expressed his desire to visit and fellowship with them, so they could mutually strengthen each other’s faith (Romans 1:12). That establishes an important truth: association can strengthen faith.
The scripture testify that association has a very powerful influence over our lives. Your association or the company you keep will either make or mar you. The Bible says “evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Corinthians 15:33). It also says that “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20). The truth is that it will be difficult to rise above the association you keep.
So it is also in the matter of faith. The association you actively embrace will either weaken or strengthen your faith. Your faith cannot be stronger than the company you keep. Only iron can properly sharpen iron; wood will not do that job effectively. If you want your faith to be strong, you should company with friends who have similar passion so that you can mutually strengthen one another.
Beloved, to strengthen your faith, you must distance yourself from people who constantly talk unbelief. Find people who will challenge your faith and encourage you to believe God more and more. Since faith comes by hearing God’s word and faith is also built through prayer, you will do well to associate with people who would constantly remind you of what the scripture says and would rather pray with you than play with you. May God bring you into relationships that will strengthen your faith.
