Preserving Your Inner Man (II)
Memory verse“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
Listen to today’s message
The point has been made that God is the owner of our soul and spirit, indeed, our entire being. It is therefore necessary that we take instruction from Him as to how to care for our inner man.
God’s word reveals two key tools that will help us maintain purity of soul and spirit. The first is the blood of Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that the blood of Jesus cleanses from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7). But to access the cleansing benefits of the blood, we must go through the door of repentance from sin (1 John 1:9).
The second cleansing agent is the word of God itself. The scripture shows that we can be washed by the word of God (Ephesians 5:26). Jesus also declared that the truth of God’s word is a cleanser and sanctifier (John 17:17). Constant meditation in the scripture and obedience to its commands cleanses the spirit and soul of man.
As we employ these tools to preserve our inner man blameless and clean before God, the Bible warns of an important duty we must always attend to. The believer who wants to keep himself from the filthiness of the soul and the spirit must abstain from all appearances of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22-23). No matter how much you apply the blood of Jesus and confess God’s word, you will remain filthy if you keep walking in unrighteousness.
Beloved, take responsibility for the cleansing of your inner man so that you can be preserved blameless before the Lord. Receive grace in Jesus name.
